Parent/Student Guide to Distance Learning
Meeker Public Schools
OVERVIEW & PURPOSE
The purpose of this guide is to provide answers and expectations by providing a continuous learning plan for the remainder of the 2020-2021 academic year.
The goal is to maintain academic rigor while providing a sense of stability to our students and their families.
Meeker Elementary students will be required to complete all assignments/activities assigned for a week at a time. All assignments/activities will be completed virtually through the use of an electronic device. A list of assignments and/or activities will be provided to each student via Google Classroom. Google Classroom will be the primary platform used for communication during our distance learning time. Students at all grade levels should read, or be read to, at least 20 minutes per day.
In order to receive credit for work completed, there will be only one option for students and parents to submit work. This option will be that of virtual learning where all assignments must be completed and submitted electronically.
The Exact Path online curriculum platform will be utilized for all students. These lessons will serve as a pacing guide for students to work through, learning new skills and mastering previously learned skills.
Other online resources will be utilized to assign students lessons and/or activities. These resources may include, but are not limited to, IXL, Renaissance Place, Reading Eggs, Think Central (for Reading curriculum), and Studies Weekly online edition. Parents will receive additional suggestions and resources for extended learning from their student’s teacher. Some of these additional resources may be websites, game ideas, art projects, etc.
Students will be expected to complete daily assignments/activities as though they are working through a regular school day. Each teacher will have a class schedule that the class will follow. This schedule will emulate a regular school day situation, working through the various subjects at different times throughout the day. There will be time scheduled in the day for lunch, recess, and break times.
Teachers will be available during all school hours to assist students with lessons. Class meetings will be scheduled using technology and electronic devices.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES (CHROMEBOOKS)
In the event that Meeker Public Schools moves to distance learning for the 2020-2021 academic year, students needing an electronic device (Chromebook) will be given a device and a charger to use for the remainder of the school year. At the conclusion of the school year, the device and charger must be returned to the school. During the time of usage, should there be any damage or loss of the device, parents will be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement of the device.
HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH MY CHILD’S TEACHER
Teachers will be available during normal school hours, 8:05 am - 3:20 pm, during each day of distance learning. This time will be used to set up class or individual meetings, to assign and check lessons and activities, and to assist students and parents with any problems that might arise.
Teachers will be working with/checking in with each student throughout each school day.
WILL WORK BE GRADED
Yes - academic expectations and integrity will be in place. During this time of distance learning, all lessons, activities, and assignments will be expected to emulate a regular school day as much as possible. In order to receive credit, students MUST submit completed assignments by the due dates, following a regular classroom schedule.
